This is something that slips past the Western viewers- it looks like it’s reaching out for Chihiro, in a malicious way, to the Western viewers. It’s what I thought growing up.
However, now, that I know that it’s a way of signalling for someone to ‘Come here!’ in Japan, the scene takes on a whole new meaning.
That spirit knows that if Chihiro doesn’t eat the food, she will disappear. And it knows if it offers the food, she cannot be cursed as a gluttonous pig because it wouldn’t have been stolen.
Just a unique take when you have all of the context.

#ye that’s why those lucky cat figurines have their paw posed like that #it’s to invite good luck over

i wish more people said that being single is normal

and you’re not going to meet and marry someone

and that’s fine

and if marriage happens, it happens. and it’s not the next big ticket to check off in life’s checklist

because not everyone meets someone they want to marry. and that’s normal

you’re not broken or unfulfilled if you are single

Today’s Self Care Tip

feministbuckybarnes:

Replace guilt with gratitude.

It might sound a bit strange, but think about it for a moment. Guilt is one of the easiest emotions we use to hurt ourselves, no matter what the source is. Depression, anxiety, trauma, eating disorders, or just plain old stress. Guilt is used socially to try to get a person to chance their behavior. The theory being that if they feel bad about it, they won’t do it again!

Sounds logical enough, but it’s so easy to step over the line and end up just crippling ourselves with a weaponized version of what should be a self-improvement motivation.

tl;dr So when you start feeling the guilt, find a way to restate the thought, and using that new statement to redirect your emotions.

EXAMPLES!

  • if you feel guilty about asking for help, instead of thinking “I’m sorry i inconvenienced this other person”, instead try “I’m so lucky and glad that I know someone willing to help me.”
  • Say it out loud! Any time you feel the urge to apologize, swallow it and thank them instead! “thank you so much for being patient with me” will feel better in the long run than “i’m sorry I’m so difficult”
  • If you feel guilty about taking time off from work/school in order to focus on recovery, think about how grateful you are for the support you have in doing that, for the opportunity, for your counselors.
  • Try to turn every attempt your mind makes to put you down into a chance to appreciate those around you, as well as your own strength and resilience. “I’m grateful for the good days and that my friends stick around even for my rougher days” instead of “I should have more good days, I don’t know why anyone bothers with me anyway.”
  • "I’m grateful for how far I’ve come" is always a good thought to keep around.

Don’t worry if it seems hard. Keep reminding yourself to do it and it will come easier and you’ll remember sooner.
